Mythic is a narrative driven 3D 1st person exploration experience. Discover a mystifying, atmospheric forest full of intrigue and wonder. Search of hidden mythical Lovecraftian inspired beasts and absorb their essence using the HD Rumble as a radar. Unlock chambers within the temple that house puzzles that challenge your understanding of the Nintendo Switch’s various features. The deeper into the temple you delve the more of the story of this forest is unravelled.

About

The main design goal for 'Mythic' was to design a game that fully utilised the wide range of features available on the Nintendo Switch platform, including the IR Camera, HD Rumble and the Motion Controls.

These features allow for players to interact with a game in new and different ways and so I wanted to make sure that the instances in which these individual features are used were done in ways that mattered, had weight and fit diagetically into the game's world.

With Gameplay Examples

IR Camera

The Nintendo Switch incorporates an IR camera on the right joy-con, the infra-red motion detection feature can produce some really interesting possibilities. Using the joy-con it can allow for the player to place their hand or other objects in front of the IR camera and produce the image of it on screen to carry out actions such as opening a simple palm scanner to carrying out more complex hand motions.

Gyroscope

Gyroscope controls have been an established control scheme for many years now and as such uses of the technology are well documented and utilised. Mythic is no different with the gyroscope having the possibility to be used within riddles and puzzles such examples being a riddle, in which the answer will require the player to turn the gamepad upside down.

HD Rumble

The innovation of the HD rumble present within the switch promotes the use of it in games to create new gameplay possibilities, some puzzles present in Mythic use the HD rumble to such ways. One example is to have the player place and rotate gears by selecting one on the gamepad then rotating using the Joy-Con's gyroscope. The player must then use the HD rumble to listen when the gear is in the correct position based on the distinctive clicking noises they create. When the gears are all in the correct position the door will open.
