Pixel Painters
Level Summary
Pixel Painters is a logic based race level introduced in Free-for-all Season 2. It is a level that can only be played in Squad shows and requires players to work as a team turning on and off buttons to match a series of pixel pictures shown to them on a nearby screen. When players correctly replicate all 5 images their team will qualify if done before the qualification quota.
Pixel Painters was a really interesting design that required me to think of ways to get players working together and reducing capacity for negative player behaviour while also creating and end-to-end flow that is easy to follow and recognise.
Game Flow
I Established a flow from the start of the level to the end that goes through each puzzle with notes for signifiers in order for players to better know what is going on and where in the flow they are.
-
Ex: A celebration sequence after each completed puzzle to celebrate the player but also gives a confirmation to the entire team they have completed it

Game Board, Puzzles & Pacing
Created a 7x7 grid for single player games and a 10x10 puzzles for squads games. The 10x10 grid was found to be too large during playtests with players often taking longer than the preferred length of a Fall Guys level.
-
Originally reduced the score amount needed for the 10x10 grids but ultimately found the pacing of the 7x7 puzzles to be more engaging for teams as well. Rolled the level into be a squads only mode.

Created Pixel puzzles that aimed to be recognisable,

Created a document to collate all pixel puzzles that can appear within the pool, able to document any changes made to them or add extra in case some where to be made for different events or future releases.

Player Feeling
I arranged the positioning of platforms so players can see other teams current progress, helping to amp up the competitiveness.

Working with art and engineering to make the feeling of pressing each button on the playable platform super exciting to press from the sound to the visuals.
